I get this question all the time from people I meet that have extra fat they’re looking to shed. And the answer is always this, all diets work if you stick with them.
When speaking about diets I have a very strong belief that sticking to a diet long term is almost impossible. You’ll get great results at first but it’s not something that you can sustain for any long period of time.
I hate the word diet! Growing up in the 80s there were tons of diets low fat, cabbage soup diet , there was even a bagel diet. So which diet is the best? The common denominator in every diet is that when you’re on one you’re eating less calories in any 24 hour. Meaning you are using more calories for energy than you take in. Therefore using fat for energy.
So when it comes to weight loss and which diet is best for you I want you to look at the word diet and change it to the word nutrition. When teaching my clients about how to eat for weight loss, I first begin by helping them to focus on how to eat less calories each day. The easiest way to do that is to choose Whole Foods because they will fill you up keep you satisfied and make you feel better then cutting anything out. Who wouldn’t rather add something then take away when looking at losing weight? I know I would. Tracking your food is a must! Measuring and being honest with what you put in your mouth. After some time, learning how to watch your calories and eating Whole Foods then we can progress into whether or not you want to eat organic? Vegan? High protein? High-fat? All those things are an option once you get the calories down and your body is responding to its weight loss Journey.
So keep it simple, it’s time for us to stop dieting and start eating for health.
