Will Strength Training Help Me Lose Weight? |

Have you ever wondered why strength training is the workout you need to lose weight?  Can you just do cardio and shed these unwanted weights?

Here’s what I learned over the 17 years of experience as a Fitness Coach. The answer is yes, you can do cardio and not strength training to lose weight. The bottom line is that healthy eating (proper nutrition plan) and adequate exercise are the only way to lose weight. It doesn’t matter how much you run, lift weights or cross train, you can never out train a bad diet!

The biggest question is how you want to look after you’ve lost weight! Do you want to look like a marathon runner or a sprinter? If your answer is marathon runner, you’re not interested in having muscle or shape in lean waist, stay away from any kind of weight training and run your heart out . You’re probably live to be a ripe old age with a healthy heart. If you want to be lean and tone, you should have a strength training plan in place that works every muscle in the body.

The older you get the more important strength training is to your exercise routine. The skin tend to have less elasticity, will sag and become thin after age 40. I learned that it’s important to incorporate cardio into strength training with proper nutrition as well as recovery and mental health to be consider fit. If you’re interested in doing more than weight lose and want to change the way you feel, look and perceive yourself it’s important to add resistance training to your exercise routine.

How many times a week should you strength train?

This is up to an individual, I recommend a minimum two to three times a week. Strength training session can be anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes depending on your level of tolerance for weights, injuries and of course the most important thing is the time you have. Most of my client love to do the weight training and it’s the cardio homework that they have the hardest time with. Setting up goals and visualize where you want to be is very important. Having a very detailed plan on how to get there is the keys to a successful weight lost!
